1. Wire Pull-Out Basket (Standard Base Cabinet Basket)

The wire pull-out basket is the most common basket fitting in Malaysian kitchen cabinets — a chrome or stainless steel wire frame basket mounted on a pair of soft-close drawer slides, pulling out of a base cabinet when the door opens.

Available in two configurations:

Door-mounted (door-integrated) pull-out: The basket is connected to the cabinet door via mounting brackets. When the door is pulled open, the basket travels forward with the door — no separate pull required. This is the cleaner, more user-friendly configuration and standard in modern Malaysian kitchen designs.

Independent pull-out: The basket pulls out separately from the door. The door opens first, then the basket is pulled out manually. Less convenient than door-integrated but easier to retrofit into existing cabinetry.

Standard sizes for Malaysian base cabinets:

• Width: 150mm, 200mm, 300mm, 400mm, 450mm, 500mm, 600mm (match to interior cabinet width minus slide clearance — typically 25mm per side)
• Depth: 450mm (standard Malaysian 600mm deep base cabinet with 150mm door and slide clearance)
• Height per basket: 100mm, 150mm, 200mm — stackable in multi-level configurations

Load rating: Standard wire pull-out baskets are rated 15–25kg per basket. Heavy-duty versions for storing pots, appliances, or tinned goods are rated to 40kg.

Material: Chrome-plated steel wire (most common in Malaysian kitchens) and stainless steel (recommended for under-sink and high-humidity applications). Avoid uncoated mild steel wire in humid Malaysian kitchen environments — surface rust appears within 12–18 months.

2. Tandem Pull-Out (Full-Extension Drawer Box System)

A tandem pull-out is a full-extension drawer box system — a solid-sided drawer box (typically aluminium or steel with a white or silver finish) mounted on high-load-rated concealed runners with soft-close and push-to-open options. Unlike an open wire basket, the tandem box has solid sides, back, and base — making it suitable for storing loose items, spices, and smaller kitchen accessories without things falling through the wire gaps.

Best for:

• Spice and condiment storage (solid sides prevent small jars from tipping through wire gaps)
• Cutlery and utensil drawers inside base cabinets
• Pantry and larder cabinet internal drawers
• Any application where fine or loose items need containment

Malaysian kitchen application: Tandem pull-outs are increasingly specified by Malaysian ID firms as a direct replacement for fixed shelf base cabinets — three stacked tandem drawers in a 600mm wide × 720mm high base cabinet give three fully accessible, soft-close storage zones that completely eliminate the “reaching to the back” problem.

Load ratings: 30–70kg per drawer depending on runner grade. For heavy pots and appliances, specify runners rated 50kg or above with ball-bearing mechanisms.

Key spec to confirm: Full extension vs partial extension. Full extension (100% extension) means the entire drawer travels out of the cabinet — nothing is hidden behind the cabinet face. Partial extension (75%) leaves approximately 150mm of the drawer inside the cabinet when fully open. Always specify full extension for kitchen base cabinets.

3. Magic Corner (Blind Corner Cabinet System)

The corner base cabinet is the most difficult storage problem in any Malaysian kitchen. A standard 900mm × 900mm corner base cabinet has a deep L-shaped interior — most of which is inaccessible without a purpose-built system. The magic corner (also called a blind corner pull-out or lazy Susan alternative) solves this with a two-tier articulated basket system that swings out of the corner and extends to the front of the opening when the door is pulled.

How it works: Two stacked wire or solid basket trays are mounted on an articulated arm system. When the door is pulled open, the arm swings the baskets forward and out of the corner space in a single smooth motion — bringing everything in the corner cabinet to a fully accessible position in front of the cabinet opening.

Two types for Malaysian corner cabinets:

Magic corner (standard): Suitable for blind corner cabinets (where one side of the corner cabinet has a regular hinged door). The baskets swing out from the blind side. Requires a minimum cabinet opening of 450mm and a corner box depth of 900mm.

Le mans / carousel system: A full-circle or half-circle rotating shelf system mounted inside the corner cabinet. The shelves rotate on a central pivot — the user rotates the shelves to access different sections. More common in older Malaysian kitchen designs; magic corner pull-outs provide better access in modern specifications.

Load rating: 15–25kg per tier. Total system: 30–50kg. Do not use magic corner systems for storing heavy cast iron cookware — the articulated arm mechanism is not designed for concentrated point loads.

4. Pull-Out Bottle and Tray Rack

A pull-out bottle rack is a narrow vertical pull-out unit — typically 100mm to 150mm wide — designed to slot into a narrow gap beside a base cabinet or inside a tall pantry cabinet. It stores bottles, oil, wine, cleaning products, or trays vertically, pulling forward to give access to items at the back.

Malaysian kitchen applications:

• The gap beside a freestanding refrigerator (typically 100–200mm)
• A narrow base cabinet beside the hob used for cooking oil and condiments
• Inside a tall pantry cabinet as a dedicated bottle storage column
• Beside the sink for washing-up liquid and cleaning supplies

Standard widths: 100mm, 150mm, 200mm internal width. Heights vary from 600mm (base cabinet) to 1,800mm (full-height pantry).

Key specification: Specify a bottle rack with individual wire dividers or adjustable shelf pins — a single open column stores bottles efficiently but unstable items topple when the unit is pulled out. Individual dividers or a grid system keeps every item upright and stable during extension.

5. Under-Sink Pull-Out Organiser

The under-sink cabinet in Malaysian kitchens is arguably the most poorly used storage space in the home. Plumbing pipes, the waste trap, and the mixer tap connections occupy the centre of the cabinet — making a standard pull-out basket impractical. Purpose-built under-sink organisers work around the plumbing with U-shaped baskets, split-level tray systems, and door-mounted racks that maximise the usable space on either side of the pipes.

Types:

• U-shaped pull-out basket: A wire basket with a U-shaped cutout in the base to clear the waste pipe. Pulls forward on slides, giving access to cleaning products, sponges, and brushes stored around the plumbing.
• Sliding tray system: Two half-width trays (left and right of the pipes) on independent slides — each side pulls out separately. Maximum space utilisation around the plumbing constraint.
• Door-mounted rack: A slim wire rack mounted on the inside of the under-sink cabinet door — adds accessible storage for sponges, gloves, and small bottles without any slide mechanism required.

Material specification for under-sink: Stainless steel or epoxy-coated steel only. The under-sink environment in Malaysian kitchens is one of the most humid storage areas in the home — chrome-plated or mild steel wire will rust rapidly. Do not specify uncoated wire baskets for under-sink applications.

6. Pull-Out Waste Bin System

A pull-out waste bin system integrates one or two bins inside a base cabinet door — the bins are mounted on a frame connected to the door, pulling forward with the door when opened. This replaces freestanding waste bins on the kitchen floor, keeping the kitchen cleaner and the bins concealed behind the cabinet door.

Standard configurations in Malaysian kitchens:

• Single bin: One 12–20 litre bin. Suitable for small kitchens or secondary waste collection.
• Double bin (sort & separate): Two bins (8–12 litres each) for general waste and recyclables — increasingly specified in Malaysian kitchens with recycling awareness growing.
• Triple bin: Three bins for general waste, recyclables, and organic/food waste.

Bin capacity guidance: For a Malaysian family of 3–5, a total bin capacity of 20–30 litres (single or double bin configuration) is standard. For larger households or kitchens generating significant food waste, 30–40 litres total.
